{"id":93106,"date":"2016-08-22T11:10:39","date_gmt":"2016-08-22T10:10:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amateurphotographer.co.uk\/?p=93106"},"modified":"2016-08-22T14:19:19","modified_gmt":"2016-08-22T13:19:19","slug":"photographers-powerful-images-chronicle-alzheimers-impact-father","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/latest\/photo-news\/photographers-powerful-images-chronicle-alzheimers-impact-father\/","title":{"rendered":"Photographer\u2019s powerful images chronicle Alzheimer\u2019s impact on his own father"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u00a9 Mark Seymour Photography<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<p>Photographer Mark Seymour is set to put 20 images of his father Ronnie on display in a fundraising exhibition called \u2018Living with Alzheimer\u2019s: A Harmonica for Ronnie\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The non-profit show is designed to celebrate Ronnie\u2019s life and relationship with his devoted wife Winnie and family, by raising funds for the Alzheimer\u2019s Society.<\/p>\n<p>The initial pictures show Ronnie at home before he becomes hospitalised and transferred to a care home for round-the-clock assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Mark said: \u2018Dad was my hero, my compass point, my biggest supporter, my role model.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Taking photographs of Dad was something I had always done and so it was totally natural to continue recording his life through the last year\u2019s as dementia took hold.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was only as I sat in front of the computer editing the images that I realised the significant change that was happening and that\u2019s when I would shed my tears.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The photos include Ronnie playing his beloved harmonica, which he continued to enjoy despite the hardships posed by his illness.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-93105\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/13898568_10154512419003469_142416781_o.web_.jpg\" alt=\"13898568_10154512419003469_142416781_o.web\" width=\"425\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2016\/08\/13898568_10154512419003469_142416781_o.web_.jpg 425w, https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2016\/08\/13898568_10154512419003469_142416781_o.web_.jpg?resize=300,452 300w, https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2016\/08\/13898568_10154512419003469_142416781_o.web_.jpg?resize=266,400 266w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/>\n<p>Alzheimer\u2019s Society chief executive Jeremy Hughes said: \u2018People often think that dementia can mean the end of doing things you enjoy. But Mark\u2019s photographs beautifully capture his dad\u2019s continued passion and enjoyment for life and his cherished harmonica.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Mark added: \u2018I knew that the photographs told the real story of dementia and I wanted to use these to raise awareness. It was important that I got Mum\u2019s blessing first and I know Dad would have been very proud.\u2019<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-93109\" \/>\n<p>Acoris Andipa, director of the Andipa Gallery, said: \u2018I instantly felt the emotive and heartfelt power of these images when Mark first showed them to me in the gallery.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was probably the fastest decision I\u2019ve made to offer Andipa\u2019s space to exhibit these thought-provoking works while also raising money and awareness of dementia.<\/p>\n<p>Alzheimer\u2019s: A
